How do you define FitFluential?

Being FitFluential to me means working toward balance of mind, body and soul. It means not being afraid to try something new, never backing down from a challenge and never including giving up as an option in achieving your health and fitness goals. It means working until your muscles scream for mercy, sweating until you can?t see and realizing that you can be and are capable of so much more than you realize. It means falling down repeatedly, picking yourself back up and trying again until you get it right. It means having fun, laughing at yourself, singing when you know the words and dancing when you don?t. It means living out your chosen lifestyle always, not just when people are watching.

What is your main motivation to be fit?

To be a living example to family, friends, strangers and most importantly, my kids that health and fitness is a beautiful thing. I?ve lived enough life to see and experience the consequences of poor health, bad decision making and sedentary living. Knowing that the decisions I make today affect not only me, but my family, friends, healthcare system and shape what my future will look like is all the motivation I need to get off my butt and move.

FitFluential believes the key to balance is eat, sleep, move, enjoy. What is your favorite way to enjoy life?

Getting outside and taking advantage of every sunny day, cool night and foggy morning I can. It?s not about locking yourself in a gym for hours but rather, incorporating this lifestyle into your every day living. I love trying new things, experiencing everything that life has to offer, whether it?s a great meal with friends, a play date at the park or an early morning run.

What is your regular fitness routine?

When I?m not pregnant, I love to strength train 3-4 days per week, run 1-2 days per week and swim whenever I can get to the pool. I?m big on variety and changing the scenery around so I?m always looking for new disciplines to try, new routes to run and new challenges to kick my butt.

What advice do you have for someone at the beginning of their fitness journey?

It?s not an all or nothing journey. Take your time, educate yourself and be patient. It?s about more than doing, it?s about enjoying, understanding and growing both physically and mentally. Find something that you truly enjoy doing, don?t gravitate toward what everyone else is doing. If you don?t like running, don?t run, try spinning instead. Ultimately you are in control of your journey so take ownership and be empowered by it. You?re capable of so much more than you realize.

What is one bit of advice you can offer to anyone having a rough day?

Like bad gas, this too shall pass (think about it?it?s profound).

Google Maps For Android Update Packs Hi-Res Map Tiles, New Transit Tweaks

Well, Google certainly seems to be having a productive day so far. In addition to the unveiling of their Account Activity feature and a handful of new Google+ Hangout apps, Google has also pushed out a considerable update to their Google Maps for Android app. Now at version 6.5, Google Maps now packs improved support for devices with high pixel density displays -- any device that falls into that category will now get high-resolution map tiles that make for more detailed views that are less cluttered by unnecessarily large labels.

Plastic restraints failed to hold pilot, JetBlue CEO vows review

JetBlue CEO says he knew the pilot who become erratic on flight 191 to Las Vegas personally. But JetBlue promises a review of safety procedures.

The CEO of JetBlue said on Wednesday he personally knows the pilot whose erratic behavior led to a diverted flight and that there were no earlier signs of problems, although the airline will review its procedures after the incident.

A JetBlue flight bound for Las Vegas from New York had to make an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas on Tuesday after what passengers described as chaos mid-flight when Captain Clayton Osbon was locked out of the cockpit.

Aviation experts say that such incidents are rare. John Cox, an aviation safety consultant and former airline pilot, told the Associated Press that incidents in which pilots become mentally incapacitated during a flight are "pretty rare." He said he could only recall two or three other examples in the more than 40 years he has been following commercial aviation.

Passenger video of the situation shows Osbon ranting about Israel and Iran, among other things.

JetBlue CEO Dave Barger described it as a medical situation that turned into a security one. He said he did not think anyone from the company has since talked to Osbon.

"The captain's now in the hands of medical care, obviously, under the custody of the FBI," Barger said told NBC's "Today" program.

"I've known the captain personally for a long period of time and there's been no indication of this at all," Barger said, adding that the pilot was a "consummate professional."

Barger said, "We'll always take a look at procedures ... but I'm very confident about our procedures, the industry's procedures."

He credited the training of another pilot and other cabin crew staff in handling the situation on the flight which had 135 passengers.

Passengers described a chaotic mid-flight scene in which a man in a JetBlue uniform, apparently locked out of the cockpit, began banging on the door and demanding to be let inside.

Tony Antolino, a passenger on the flight who helped subdue the pilot, said the plastic restraints on board were flimsy and systematically failed. Passengers on the flight were rattled, and several had to restrain the pilot after his meltdown by sitting on him.

"They did not work, they failed," Antolino told NBC, speaking from Las Vegas. "We had to use seatbelt extenders, people's belts and physically our hands to try and restrain the guy."

Asked if he would review company procedures following the incident, Barger said: "Absolutely, but not just that, but also the entire event ... within JetBlue and also the industry."

The Federal Aviation Administration cited an "onboard medical emergency" as the reason for the diversion, and said preliminary information showed the co-pilot became concerned that the captain had "exhibited erratic behavior during the flight."

"The captain had exited the cockpit during the flight, after which the co-pilot locked the door," the statement said. "When the captain attempted to enter the locked cockpit,he was subdued by passengers."

The incident was the second one involving erratic behavior by a JetBlue crew member since August 2010, when a flight attendant, Steve Slater, bolted from a plane by deploying and sliding down the inflatable emergency chute following an altercation with a passenger.

Tenacious D Return To Reclaim Title As Rock Ultra-Gods

New video chronicles the duo's return to rockdom and announces their third studio album, Rize of the Fenix.

"Some call them kings. Others call them gods, but one thing that everyone agreed on was that Tenacious D was more talented than the Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin combined."

Those are the immortal words of "Extra"'s Maria Menounos, retelling the tragic story of the greatest rock band to ever rock, Tenacious D. Members Jack Black and Kyle Gass apparently fell on rough times after the box-office failure of their film, "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny."

But after years in a mental hospital and "lots of drugs," Tenacious D have returned with a brand-new video and news of their third studio album, Rize of the Fenix.

The new video shares the story of the lost years of Tenacious D. After a nervous breakdown, Gass spent years locked away, only to escape in hopes of reuniting with his former bandmate, Black, now going by the name "Hollywood Jack."

Entitled "To Be the Best," the video chronicles D's climb back to the top of all of rockdom.

In traditional Tenacious D style, the boys have some of their famous friends stop by to join in on the fun. In an interview recalling D's spectacular fall from grace, Academy Award-winning actor Tim Robbins shared his memory of Gass' battle with his demons. "Kyle couldn't take the pressure," he said. "It was no more Kyle. It was only Rage Kage."

The most tragic part of the return of Tenacious D comes at the expense of Val Kilmer's life. The method actor takes a bullet fired by Gass and meant for Black, but his death was not in vain. The incident spurred the Tenacious D reunion fans have been begging for since 2008.

Unfortunately, during their hiatus, both Black and Gass forgot how to rock. Thankfully, Dave Grohl, Josh Groban and two books, "Blowing F---ing Minds for Idiots" and "Impregnating Ears for Idiots," were there to help out.

Rize of the Fenix will be in stores on May 15.

Towson University to host celebration of Greg Giovanazzi, former NCAA, Olympic volleyball coach

The Towson University community is expressing condolences this week to colleague Deb Moriarty for the death of her husband, Gregory Giovanazzi.

Moriarty is vice president for student affairs at Towson University, and also serves as president for the Towson Chamber of Commerce.

Giovanazzi, 54, of Catonsville, died in his sleep Monday, March 19, at home. A "Life is Good" celebration in his honor is scheduled to be held Saturday at Towson University at noon in the West Village Commons Ballroom.

In a statement to Towson University faculty, staff and students, TU President Maravene Loeschke acknowledged Giovanazzi's death and expressed the university's condolences to Moriarty.

"Those who were fortunate enough to know Greg and the remarkable relationship he shared with Deb, also know that Deb attributes much of her personal and professional career to his understanding and unwavering support as a husband and father to their daughter Casey," wrote Loeschke.

"Let us all keep this beloved member of our campus family in our thoughts and provide her support during this difficult time," Loeschke wrote.

Giovanazzi was a member of the 1976 NCAA National Champion UCLA?volleyball team, and spent several years traveling internationally playing professional volleyball.

The obituary for Giovanazzi, published by Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, notes that, "though he loved to play volleyball, his greatest impact on the sport came through coaching. Greg spent 30 years inspiring young adults, primarily women, to love and understand volleyball."

He was a coach for the UCLA National Championship teams for 1977, 1978 and 1984, as well as the 1992 U.S. Women's Olympic Team that captured a bronze medal in Barcelona.

He served on the college coaching staffs for UCLA, the University of Michigan, the University of Maryland Baltimore County and, most recently, Johns Hopkins.

He also coached the 2011 Columbia Volleyball Club Comets team ? and he coached his daughter, Casey, in club volleyball. She is finishing up her first year at the University of North Florida.

The Baltimore Sun noted Giovanazzi suffered from debilitating migraine headaches for more than half of his life, and that for two years, he'd taken part in a study of chronic traumatic encephalopathy at Boston University. His family has donated Giovanazzi's brain and spinal cord to science for research.

"For someone who'd been in such pain, for so much of his life, there's some comfort in knowing that Greg died peacefully," his wife told The Sun.

Saturday's memorial service will be informal, per his request, his wife told The Sun.

"We're asking people to wear Hawaiian shirts, sun dresses and flip-flops," she told The Sun. "That was Greg, all the way. He got robbed, leaving us at 54, but this is a man who lived a very full and rich life."

In a 2008 Baltimore Sun article, reporter Mike Klingaman wrote of Giovanzzi:

"In the worst of times, when horrific headaches drive him to a darkened bedroom for days, Greg Giovanazzi struggles toward the light.

Brow knitted, eyes clenched, he wades through the pain to think of stuff that matters ? family, friends and job. It helps him ride out the migraines that have hounded him for decades ...

"Coaching motivates me to get out of bed, manage my depression and start the healing process," he said. "It gives me reason to continue. That might sound dramatic, but ... I don't want to miss time with my players. I want them to have the opportunity to be the best they can be."

In addition to his wife and daughter, Giovanazzi is survived by son George, brother Gary of Pismo Beach, Calif., as well as extended family and many friends across the country.

WiFi Rules, OK? Only 6% Of iPad Sessions Come From Cellular Networks

There has been some anecodotal evidence about how WiFi is by far the most popular way to connect on a tablet, but some numbers out from Localytics spell out just how little traffic is coming from 3G (and now 4G) networks on the most popular tablet of all, the iPad from Apple. Using data from apps that run on its mobile analytics platform, Localytics says that in the last week, since the introduction of the new iPad, only six percent of all sessions on iPads were coming from cellular networks, with the rest coming from WiFi. That's a testament to how consumers by and large don't seem to be particularly interested in having 3G or 4G on their devices: not great news for carriers that were hoping for more traffic and purchases of data plans on their cellular networks. However, Localytics also found those tablets that do have cellular chips are seeing a very even amount of use between WiFi and cellular networks.

Marketing Your Life Coaching Practice: 3 Essential Tips

As the field of life coaching continues to expand, there is increasing opportunity for new coaches to establish themselves in the marketplace. Understanding a few basic marketing concepts and knowing how to apply them properly online will help you to establish yourself as a life coach and to steadily build your practice.

Who Do You Want to Serve?

Most people enter the life coaching profession because they have a desire to help others create a satisfying life and achieve their goals. Since life coaching is a service oriented position, the foundation for a strong marketing plan is to identify who you would like to serve and in what way. Some coaches like to work with new parents, others feel a calling to serve business people. The potential target audience is almost endless, since many sectors of the population are now hiring life coaches.

Once you identify who your target audience is, you can then focus in on what types of issues and concerns they have. Your marketing will revolve around this. For example, marketing yourself as a "life coach" is not as effective as stating "I help executives communicate more effectively with their employees," or "I assist holistic entrepreneurs to put their ideas into action."

Why Am I Different?

Since more people are becoming life coaches daily, it is essential to differentiate yourself to stand out in the competitive marketplace. This is a basic principle of attraction marketing, and the basic tenet is that when you differentiate yourself, you are essentially eliminating competition.

People hire you because you are "you," and not simply because you are in the life coaching field. When you are ready for this step ask yourself, "What am I passionate about?" "What makes me unique?" "What am I bringing to the marketplace that noone else is?" Chances are, you entered life coaching as a career because of a personal life experience that you had, and this is a good place to begin looking to cultivate a personal brand. Your personal brand includes all aspects of differentiation, as well as your core mission and ethics, the quality of your service, your price, business name, logo, and marketing materials.

Develop an Online Presence

Understanding online tools gives you an immediate marketing advantage, since there are literally millions of potential clients you can serve using the internet. Setting up a life coaching website with an "About Me" section, as well as an opt-in, free gift, and a blog is a solid start to begin presenting your branding message to your potential audience. Also, choose one or two social media sites and begin to build community by offering your knowledge and expertise. Always add value to these communities; never pitch your product or service. Attraction marketing works by building relationships first; people do not like being sold during their leisure time. As you begin to build your online presence and brand in this way, you will establish credibility and authority in your chosen niche market in the vast life coaching field. Potential clients will begin to come to you and ask you for your help, and your business will grow organically.

I'm hoping we actually get to see her and not just her point of view in the full teaser."

Seeing vampire Bella has all us fans excited, but of course there are those who will never get enough of Edward Cullen. When we asked fans to tweet us their reactions to the teaser, we received a lot of love for Pattinson's beloved character as well as requests for more vampire Bella.

@bellalorenza_ and @sherriatl want more of RPattz, whereas @catprodd requested the trailer "bring on the new vamps" that make their debut in part 2. @theLynsJ is all about the new vampy Mrs. Cullen. Daytona to repave area charred by track fire

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? Daytona International Speedway is getting another repave.

Track president Joie Chitwood III says the asphalt in Turn 3 will be removed and repaved following Saturday's motorcycle racing event.

Workers have washed and cleaned the area of the track multiple times since a fiery explosion charred and damaged the track during the Daytona 500 on Feb. 27. Juan Pablo Montoya's car broke during a caution lap, crashed into a track dryer carrying about 200 gallons of jet fuel and ignited a fire that halted the nighttime race for more than two hours.

Chitwood expects the damaged portion of the famed track to hold up during Saturday's AMA event, and believes the track will be back to normal before NASCAR's July race at Daytona.

The track had a complete repave in 2010.

North Carolina vs. Kansas, potential Midwest Region final. OK, a lot has to happen before we get to this, but two perennial powers and Roy Williams against his former team back in the Midwest builds a little anticipation.

MID-MAJORS TO WATCH

After Butler made it to consecutive championship games and VCU joined the Bulldogs last year, it's hard to rule anyone out. Here's a few of the mid-majors to keep an eye on this year.

Detroit ? The Titans are as talented as anyone and have scoring machine Ray McCallum.

Memphis ? The Tigers are long, athletic and can stay with anyone when they're on top of their game.

VCU ? Coach Shaka Smart. He did it once before, can do it again.

Wichita State ? The Shockers must get by VCU in their opener but have the look of a team that could make a run.

Montana ? The Grizzlies aren't exactly grizzled when it comes to the NCAA tournament, but they enter with a 14-game winning streak and like to play defense.

Long Beach State ? The Gauchos had three victories in as many nights to win the Big West Conference tournament but aren't sure if Larry Anderson will be able to play against New Mexico on Thursday.

DISTANCES

Although North Carolina got a break in the bracket by playing in nearby Greensboro, fellow Tar Heel State school Davidson could be a little travel-weary.

The Tar Heels have the shortest distance for their opening game, a short bus ride of about 47 miles, with Duke needing only a couple more miles to face Lehigh in the same arena.

Davidson has the second-longest longest trip of about 2,800 miles to play Louisville in Portland, Ore., a few miles shorter than VCU's trip to the Northwest to face Wichita State.

That's a long plane ride or roughly 46 hours on a bus. We're guessing they'll fly.

Kentucky also has a quick trip of about 77 miles to play Western Kentucky in Louisville, while Harvard's players will have plenty of time to catch up on their reading with a 2,200-mile trip to Albuquerque, N.M.

Your Grandmother Was A Molecule

Well, perhaps your great-to-the-hundred-millionth-grandmother was.

Understanding the origins of life and the mechanics of the earliest beginnings of life is as important for the quest to unravel the Earth?s biological history as it is for the quest to seek out other life in the universe. We?re pretty confident that single-celled organisms ? bacteria and archaea ? were the first ?creatures? to slither around on this planet, but what happened before that is a matter of intense and often controversial debate.

One possibility for a precursor to these organisms was a world without DNA, but with the bare bone molecular pieces that would eventually result in the evolutionary move to DNA and its associated machinery. This idea was put forward by an influential paper in the journal Nature in 1986 by Walter Gilbert (winner of a Nobel in Chemistry), who fleshed out an idea by Carl Woese ? who had earlier identified the Archaea as a distinct branch of life. This ancient biomolecular system was called the RNA-world, since it consists of ribonucleic acid sequences (RNA) but lacks the permanent storage mechanisms of deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA).

A key part of the RNA-world hypothesis is that in addition to carrying reproducible information in their sequences, RNA molecules can also perform the duties of enzymes in catalyzing reactions ? sustaining a busy, self-replicating, evolving ecosystem. In this picture RNA evolves away until eventually items like proteins come onto the scene, at which point things can really gear up towards more complex and familiar life. It?s an appealing picture for the stepping-stones to life as we know it.

In modern organisms a very complex molecular structure called the ribosome is the critical machine that reads the information in a piece of messenger-RNA (that has spawned off the original DNA) and then assembles proteins according to this blueprint by snatching amino acids out of a cell?s environment and putting them together. Ribosomes are amazing, they?re also composed of a mix of large numbers of RNA molecules and protein molecules.

But there?s a possible catch to all this, and it relates to the idea of a protein-free RNA-world some 4 billion years ago. In a new, and provocative study by Harish and Caetano-Anoll?s in the open-access PLos One, an argument is made for the co-evolution of RNA and proteins as a more plausible way for something as intricate as the ribosome to arise. In the regular RNA-world hypothesis this is not how it happens, RNA is effectively exclusive until eventually proteins come along. However, the authors of this new work applied the tools of phylogenetics ? the measurement of evolutionary distance or age between key molecular sequences and structures ? to ?date? different parts of modern ribosomes. Intriguingly both the RNA and protein pieces of the ribosome seem to follow a similar span of evolution, suggesting that this fabulously complicated molecule was gradually aggregated in a world made of both proteins and RNA and that the proteins were already being made via some other mechanism involving RNA. Once ribosomes developed, protein-manufacture could really take off in new ways, but this may not have been their origin.

It?s certainly a fascinating idea, a ?ribonucleoprotein-world? hypothesis, although time will tell if it becomes accepted by evolutionary molecular biologists. It does also hint at the notion of a ribosome being one of the first results of what we might recognize as a symbiotic relationship. So, your grandmother may well have been a molecule, a ribosome in fact.

Best Practice Site Visit to Noble Foods - Scotland Food and Drink

As part of the on-going work SF&D are doing to help food and drink businesses in Scotland meet the retailers increasing sustainability requirement from their suppliers SF&D helped host a best practice site visit to Noble Foods in Thornton, Fife.

Noble foods who were kind enough to not only host the visitors but also took the time out to show the visitors around the site and present on what site has achieved in regards to environmental improvements.

Over the last few months the site has been working on achieving the highest status on the M&S Plan A framework, although the site already had much of the M&S Plan A objectives in place they have also adapted the sites environmental targets and policies to encompass all of the retailers Plan A ambitions.

The Thornton site packs eggs for all the major retailers, but also has own brand products including the Happy Egg Co. brand.?
?
The Noble Foods host highlighted to the visitors from other food and drink businesses what the site has being doing to reduce their wastes, optimise their resource use, reduce their energy use and their plans to not only preserve the biodiversity on the site but also enhance it.

The site really has gone beyond the expected standard to being exemplary in terms of what they are doing to reduce the baseline costs of the business while in conjunction reducing their environmental impacts.

Underpinning all of these achievements is the engagement of the staff at the site, through their Green Team but also through the enthusiasm of the site Green Champion who is also the Quality Manager who oversees environmental initiatives.
