Methods of earning money from the Internet ? Part 1 ? Piece of Mind ...

The internet is a treasure trove of information and there is money to be made from it. The question is do you have the know how.

What are the methods people/companies employ to make money from the Internet?

1. Selling goods on the internet. For example ebay, flipkart, jabongg etc.

2. Selling services on the internet. You can sell web design, hosting, writing, translation, software programming, video editing etc.

3. Selling goods on commission. For example, make a website and sell goods from another website and earn money as commissions on the sales. This is called affiliate marketing.

4. Distributing information on a website and making money from advertisements. This is what majority of the websites do.

Which is the most guaranteed way of earning money online?

There are no guaranteed ways, you can earn money doing any one of them or all of them, but all of them can succeed or fail depending on what you do and how you do it.

Which method to use?

For the sake of simplicity, I will start with method number 4.

Requirements for method 4

a. Domain name

b. Hosting space

c. Good topic

d. Good site design

e. Good content

f. Advertisers

g. Visitors

Domain name

Getting a domain name costs money but it is essential. You can use free domain names like xyz.blogspot.com or yourdomain.co.nr but it will not help you reach your goal. You can buy domain names for few hundred rupees per year.

Hosting space

Your domain needs to be hosted on a server, where people can access your web site and you can store your web pages or blog. Hosting space costs money. You can get hosting space for few hundred rupees per month or year.

Good topic

A blog like arpandeb.com is not meant to earn quickly or is not completely targeted towards earning. Arpandeb.com earns already and can earn big in the future but this is not the most optimal way of doing it to start earning quickly. To do it fast, you have to choose a topic that people are interested in and for which advertisers are available.

Good site design

This is very important. Your site must look good and should be easy to navigate. It should also be conducive to good ad placements, without which you can not earn money.

Good content

Your site must have good , original content written in a interesting manner. Without will not have visitors and that means no money. Copying and pasting content from other sites should be strictly avoided. Not only is it bad, it is down right unethical.

Advertisers

There are people / companies who will pay you to carry their advertisements on your website. Finding them is the easiest step.

Visitors

Without visitors your site is worth nothing. Think of a shop with no customer and you will get the idea. It is because of the visitors , that the advertisers will pay you.

How to start?

First step is to find or choose a good topic. A topic more often than not has many sub topics and those sub topics will have many keywords. I will come back to the ?keyword? a bit later. To illustrate a topic with an example

Android = Topic

Android Phone = Sub topic

Android Tablet = Sub topic

Android apps = Sub topic

Android Market = Sub topic

You can see that Android is a vast topic with many sub topics. When you are starting out, you have to choose a topic than drill down to the sub topic you are going to concentrate or you can make a list of the sub topics (recommended).

Each sub topic will have keywords, the number of keywords can range from a dozen to few hundreds. Keywords are the words that people use when they search for the sub topic in Google. For example

Android phone = sub topic

cheap android phone = keyword

android phone reviews = keyword

samsung android phone = keyword

dual sim android phone = keyword

android phone prices = keyword

Each keyword in turn can have many sub keywords. Your site will be based on a group of keywords. Your choice of keywords will be a deciding factor on whether your site makes money or not.

How to choose a good keyword?

A good keyword has to fulfill three conditions

1. Search volume : This is the number of searches Google receives in a month or year for any particular keyword. The higher the number the better it is.

2. Competition : There are hundreds of millions of sites on the internet and any keyword you choose will have competitors. Some keywords have more competitors than others. Competitors are websites which are using the same keyword to make money. The higher the competitors the harder it is to make money (I will explain the reason in subsequent parts). The trick is to choose a keyword that has a high search volume and low competition.

3. Viability: This measures if a keyword is going to make money or not. There are many keywords that have good search volume, low competition but very few advertisers. And low advertiser count means, the site will not make enough money or no money at all.

To put it briefly, a good keyword should have high search volume, low competition and many advertisers. In subsequent parts, I will show you
