Paula Abdul, Arsenio Hall, Melanie Brown, Brooke Burke and a Galaxy of Stars Join Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete for DesignCare 2012

Actress Holly Robinson Peete and veteran NFL quarterback Rodney Peete staged a superb night of fashion, music and mingling at DesignCare 2012, the 14th annual fundraiser for the HollyRod Foundation, which provides assistance to people living with autism and Parkinson?s disease. ?

Set at one of Malibu?s most beautiful oceanfront estates, the event drew a galaxy of stars, including Paula Abdul of ?The X-Factor,? talk show host Arsenio Hall, NFL veteran Al Cowlings, Lisa Rinna of ?Days of Our Lives? and Harry Hamlin of ?Army Wives,??Brooke Burke of ?Dancing With the Stars? and David Charvet of ?The Pefect Teacher,? Spice Girl Melanie Brown and producer Stephen Belafonte, Jane Seymour of ?Lake Effects? and James Keach of ?This One ?n That One,? comedian Byron Allen, Shaun Robinson of ?Access Hollywood? and the statuesque Shannon Tweed of ?Ex-Wives of Rock.?

While enjoying the salt air, guests perused auction items beside the spacious lawn, which was set with tables for the buffet dinner. And as the sun set over the ocean, party-goers took the opportunity to catch up with one another.

Paula Abdul said she couldn?t yet talk about all her upcoming plans, but right now, she?s writing a book about her experiences and about feeling good while passing through one?s 30s and 40s. Abdul figured she?s about three-quarters of the way done.?

Abdul said her friendship with Holly Robinson Peete goes back many ?years and she was happy to lend her support to HollyRod. ?

After we talked about meeting at a previous charity event, which benefited from the publicity generated by her appearance, she said she?s happy to help when she can. ?It doesn?t take much effort for me to be here,? said Abdul, who couldn?t have been more gracious. ?It?s really nothing, and if it makes a difference, that?s all that counts.??

Wayne Hughes and Patricia Whitfield hosted the gala at their spectacular oceanfront home, and they, too, said they lent their support out of friendship for the Peetes. ?

And if some supporters couldn?t attend, the Peetes took care to acknowledge their generosity from onstage when the program began. ?Oprah wrote a big check,? Peete said. ?I framed it,? added Robinson Peete.

A fashion show by Sue Wong and the awards ceremony followed.?

Gerald Storch, company chairman and CEO, received the HollyRod Corporate Compassion Award, on behalf of Toys ?R? Us; Zev Glassenberg and Justin Kanew of ?The Amazing Race? were given the HollyRod Champion Award and former NBA star Brian Grant took home the Matthew T. Robinson, Jr., Award of Courage.?

Grant suffers from Parkinson?s disease, and following a video on the subject, he made sure to tell the crowd, ?I?m upbeat. I?m loving life.?

Following ceremonies, Mark Curry of ?Hangin? With Mr. Cooper? conducted a live auction and in conclusion, Jeffrey Osborne and 9-time Grammy Award-winner Natalie Cole gave a dynamic performance, led my musical director Rickey Minor.

Major sponsors included American Airlines, Outback Steakhouse, Target, Wen Hair & Body Care by Chaz Dean, Babakul, Audi Beverly Hills and NARS. ?
