Thousands of US troops deploying to Israel
Submitted by WakeUpPeople
Iranian officials believe the possible deployment of thousands of American troops to Israel, is the latest warning that the US will target Tehran.
Under the Austere Challenge 12 drill scheduled for an undisclosed time during the next few weeks, the Israeli military will together with America host the largest-ever joint missile drill by the two countries. Following the installation of American troops near Iran?s neighboring Strait of Hormuz and the reinforcing of nearby nations with US weapons, Tehran authorities are considering this not a test but the start of something much bigger.
The community responds to the possible showdown:
cabinettags: "I don't think this is cause for alarm. As stated, these things are planned years in advance. Our troops have worked along side the IDF in desert training many times. Nothing new - just the timing now seems ominous."
JanforGore: "So is it just coincidental that Obama just signed the NDAA bill on New Year's Eve and this happens not even a week later? So if we go out in the streets to protest this we will now be seen as terrorists against the govt?"

Gingrich: Founding fathers would have ?violent? reaction to pot growers
Submitted by KB723
Newt Gingrich believes the founding fathers of the United States would have dealt violently with marijuana growers.
?In general, I?d like us to be as drug free as possible and I think that it requires a much more serious approach.?
Gingrich was later asked if former Presidents Thomas Jefferson or George Washington should have been arrested for growing marijuana.
?I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government,? he responded.
SCOTUS expected to weigh Montana campaign finance appeal
Submitted by WakeUpPeople
The U.S. Supreme Court plans to address American Tradition Partnership's appeal to a Montana Supreme Court ruling that upheld a state law banning corporations from spending to directly support or oppose candidates.
Proponents of the Citizens United decision said they expect the high court to swiftly strike down the Montana law. The court could issue a summary reversal of the Montana court ruling without hearing arguments on the case.
?We, and impartial legal scholars, are confident these unbiased courts will uphold the First Amendment rights of Montanans to speak freely about powerholders,? American Tradition Partnership Executive Director Donald Ferguson said Thursday in a statement.
