Someone unfriended you? Time to find out who!

Duane Hoffman/NBCNews.com

By Helen A.S. Popkin

For a brief time during Facebook?s initial Timeline rollout, you could see who unfriended you, and even when, just by clicking on the year and looking in your ?friends? box.

Though Timeline brought many haters-of-Facebook-change out of the woodwork, this was the one new ?feature? they agreed was awesome. Predictably, it didn?t last. Facebook, which prefers that you focus on the positive aspects of friendship, ?fixed? the problem. And most of us went back to the old way of finding out we?ve been unfriended ? stumbling upon rejection via profiles we could no longer access, and other similar disturbances in the force.

You can be proactive in uncovering your rejection however, and not just on Facebook. Tech savvy humans who sympathize with your need to know have made a variety of browser add-ons and other such applications to help you find the people who?ve left you on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and even Google+ (shut up!).

How easy is it to find out? Depends on the network. Here?s our guide to the apps and hacks that purport to show you who unfriended you. It can be done, in most networks.

Unfriend Finder

Facebook

?Unfriend Finder

While Facebook doesn?t allow any apps that will give you the unhappy news -- those you do see on Facebook are likely scams -- Unfriend Finder is a free browser extension that doesn?t live inside the social network. Once you install it (on Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Safari) and log into Facebook, the Unfriend Finder keeps a tally of your friends. When someone falls away, it will notify you via a red counter and in the menu bar, as well as Facebook notifications.

Unlike the short-lived hole in Facebook Timeline however, Unfriend Finder won?t tell you who ditched you in the past. As I mentioned, it only starts working once you install it in your browser. But it?s not good to live in the past, anyway.

Social Fixer for Facebook

Social Fixer is another browser extension that doesn't work on Internet Explorer, and does work on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Like Unfriend Finder, it'll tell you who gave you the?ax. But Social Fixer has a lot of bells and whistles, too. Via the extension, you can hide posts you've already read, add a decorative skin to your profile and rearrange all your Facebook content and how you view it.?

Twitter

?Unfollowr

Find out who's grown weary with your 140 missives via the same service you got ditched on. All you have to do is follow @unfollowr on Twitter, and you?ll be notified in your DM (direct message) box every time a follower calls it quits.

Quitter

Unlike Unfollowr, which only requires you to follow its own account, Quitter is an app you must authorize via Twitter. The app then compares your followers on a weekly basis and notifies you via email with the list of all those who left you.

Friend or Follow

One way to get some positive with your negative is by using the app Friend or Follow, which will tell you three things about your tweet life:

Friend or Follow

• Following: Who you?re following who isn?t following you back
• Fans: Who?s following you, even though you?re not following them
• Friends: Who you?re following that follows you back

Pop your Twitter name in the search engine to regularly review the categories ? if you see someone new pop up in ?Following? who used to be in ?Friends,? it could be time to cull the herd yourself.

You can also sort each category by name, location, number of followers and more. If one of your fans is especially popular, maybe it?s time to turn he or she into a friend. ?(Plus, if it takes a long time for the results to load, theirs an adorable gif of someone petting a bunny!)

Instagram

Statigram

Statigram

There are more than a few Apps that tell you who stopped looking at your old-timey filter photos on Instagram, no matter your phone?s OS.?

The website Statigram, however, doesn?t just tell you who is ? or is no longer ? following you. It also shows you all your Instagram stats in a handy infographic, including info such as how many photos you?ve posted, how many likes and comments you?ve received, and how many times you?ve used each Instagram filter. Now that?s news you can use!

Pinterest

Followers on Pinterest

Followers on Pinterest

It was only a matter of time before the comparatively new social network inspired its own rejection notification system. ?Followers on Pinterest ? for iPhone and iPad only ? does just that, along with providing other useful information that won?t shatter your ego. Other categories of your Pinterest interactions available on the app include followers, recent followers, non-followers, mutual friends and fans. Now don?t you feel better about yourself? ?

Google +

G-Minus

G-Minus

Just because you haven?t even checked in on your Google + circles in a while doesn?t mean someone else hasn?t kicked you out of theirs. Find out who with G-Minus, a Chrome browser extension that keeps track of your circles each time you check into Google+. Like Unfriend Finder for Facebook, G-Minus can?t tell you who gave you the boot before you started using the extension, but again, sometimes it?s best not to know.

When you start an online business, you need to be very determined and dedicated. Online marketing requires you to pay attention to a variety of factors and details. Many internet marketers overlook some crucial steps and have trouble setting up a profitable business. You can?t expect the final product to come out right if you don?t include all of the necessary elements. You must pay close attention to how you set up your online business, as everything will depend on this. If you want your business to make good progress in the future, the key is to starting off in the right way. That?s why you want to begin with a clear plan, and not just do things in a random way and hope for the best. The three guidelines we?ll be discussing in this article will help you set up a strong foundation for your online enterprise.

Before deciding on a product, think about the market you want to work with and do your research. It may or may not help you to feel total passion for a market, and that is something you have to discover on your own. One thing that will go far to determine success is your knowledge about the people in your market. How much you know about the folks in your niche market is so critical that we cannot say it too often.

Pick an online business model that you want to go with because being sure of how you?re going to approach your online business is really important. There are many ways of making money on the net, and the big divide is product creation versus affiliate products marketing. If you have never even given any of this any thought, then just stop everything and tend to the matter. Do not forget that you can learn immensely from other IM marketers, so you need to find them ? think, forums. Take a look at www.wikipedia.org for logical tips.

Understand that an online business is a real business, and the money is real, your customers are real, the leads you generate are real ? so take it seriously. If you are not serious about it, then you will very likely quit or become serious about it. So this all makes total sense, and we do not want to beat a dead horse too much, here. You will find that once you begin making money, then that will likely change how you look at it.

You have to develop your beliefs and the way you are thinking about this in the right way.

Every aspiring Internet entrepreneur knows for a fact that running an online business requires more than a website.

It?s necessary to have a plan and set some clear cut goals. The clearer you are about what you want to accomplish, the more likely it is that you?ll succeed. And in order to do that, you need to work on getting your basics right. Every business is built in stages, so you want to be clear about each step. The more effort you put into the first stages of your business, the better your chances of long term success. So make sure you start off the right way!

British-born filmmaker Tony Scott jumps to death

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British-born filmmaker Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide," jumped to his death on Sunday from a bridge over Los Angeles Harbor, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said.

Onlookers saw Scott, who was 68, parking his car on the Vincent Thomas Bridge and leaping into the water below at about 12:30 p.m. local time (1930 GMT), according to Lieutenant Joe Bale, a watch commander for the coroner's office.

Bale said the body was recovered by law enforcement from the harbor shortly before 3 p.m. and was subsequently identified as being that of the filmmaker and younger brother of fellow movie director Ridley Scott.

A note was found in Scott's car that Bale said he believed would turn out to be a suicide note, though he was not familiar with its contents. "Typically, when they find a note in cases like this, it's not a shopping list," he said.

The bridge, the surface of which clears the harbor's navigation channel by a height of about 185 feet, connects the port district of San Pedro at the southern tip of Los Angeles to Terminal Island in the harbor.

A spokeswoman for the filmmaker, Katherine Rowe, said in a brief statement, "I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away," adding only, "The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time."

MUSCULAR

Scott, born in North Shields, Northumberland, in England, and frequently seen behind the camera in his signature faded red baseball cap, is credited with directing more than two dozen movies and television shows and producing nearly 50 titles.

He was best known for muscular but stylish high-octane thrillers that showcased some of Hollywood's biggest stars in a body of work that dated back to the 1980s and established him as one of the most successful action directors in the business.

He got his start making TV commercials for his older sibling's London-based production company, Ridley Scott Associates, and segued into movies for television and film.

His feature directorial debut - 1983 vampire movie "The Hunger" starring British rocker David Bowie and French actress Catherine Deneuve - was a flop. But he bounced back three years later with the fighter jet adventure "Top Gun," which starred Tom Cruise as a hot-shot pilot and followed that with another big hit, the 1987 Eddie Murphy comedy "Beverly Hills Cop II."

Other notable directing credits include the 1990 racing drama "Days of Thunder," which also featured Cruise, the 1995 submarine thriller "Crimson Tide," co-starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman, and the 1998 spy thriller "Enemy of the State," which paired Hackman and Will Smith. The 2001 espionage drama "Spy Game" teamed Robert Redford with Brad Pitt.

Denzel Washington became Scott's most frequent star, appearing in four other films by the director - the 2004 vengeance drama "Man on Fire," 2006 sci-fi adventure "Deja Vu," a 2009 remake of "The Taking of the Pelham 1 2 3," a subway hostage thriller co-starring John Travolta, and the 2010 runaway-train blockbuster, "Unstoppable."

Scott and his older brother were executive producers together on two successful prime-time television dramas, "Numb3rs," which ran on CBS from 2005 to 2010, and "The Good Wife," which premiered in 2009 and is still running in CBS.

According to the Hollywood website Internet Movie Database, Tony Scott had been in production as the director of a film called "Emma's War," about a British aid worker in Sudan who marries a warlord seeking to control part of the country.

Scott is survived by his third wife, Donna, with whom he had two children.

Saints icon Steve Gleason, who will be profiled on tonight?s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel?(9:00 p.m. ET) has clarified in advance of the debut of the piece a key quote that has been attributed to him via subtitles used by HBO.

In an email to Peter King of SI.com, Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and PFT, Gleason calls HBO?s effort to characterize his words the ?misquote of the week.?

When talking about the notorious pregame comments of former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams from January?s postseason loss to the 49ers, the HBO subtitles applied to Gleason?s words from the ?rough cut? of the show indicate that the former Saint was bothered by the reaction of the current members of the Saints to Williams? ?kill the head? rant.

As subtitled by HBO, Gleason said:? ?The real problem was no one seemed shocked.? There as no discussion of ?Wow, did we just hear that???

Gleason says in his email that his actual words were, ?The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.?? Obviously, this would dramatically narrow the breadth of the response, exempting Saints players and coaches and other team employees who were in the room.

Though it?s not our desire or role to defend HBO, the network?s characterization seems reasonable in light of the context.? Gleason was responding specifically to this:? ?Was there any discussion afterward when the meeting was over and those players saw you, did anybody say, ?Wow, that was kind of tough Steve, I?m sorry you had to hear that.???

And then after Gleason?s response the question was, ?Nobody seemed shocked to hear that come out of the coaches mouth??

Said Gleason:? ?No, there was no discussion of, ?Wow, did we just hear that??

That said, listening to the words that Gleason uttered without reading the subtitles, it appears that he said, ?The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.?

With the show debuting later tonight, this is something that HBO and Gleason need to get worked out.

Gleason also adds in his email this observation regarding the Williams speech:? ?In my opinion, speeches like the one given by Gregg Williams are not the cause of increased rate of ?brain disease in the NFL population.? The increased rate of brain disease In the NFL population is caused by the way the game is played within the rules.?

That may be a more significant comment than anything Gleason told HBO on camera.
